A Cow Milk Drinkers Opinion On Almond Milk

Okay, I’m guessing from the long-winded title that you get what this post is about. Currently, I’m enjoying my away time at the Gold Coast with family and my man, so I thought there’s no better time than the present to review the goodie bag I received from Blue Diamond (received after entering a giveaway).

In Australia it’s known as Almond Breeze Almond Milk, but is better known to Americans as the company Blue Diamond (Like Chobani, they finally made their way over here, woo). It’s definitely well known and sought after over there, so can feel comfort in knowing that it’s a very reputable company with great and healthy intentions.

Before receiving this, I’ve only ever had almond milk once and it was a huge disaster (no naming names here). It was sweetened version and honestly tasted like sugary water. I did not enjoy it. And neither did my bf.

I had a taste of the Almond Breeze’s Original version, which is sweetened, and found it to be much better than my first experience but still felt it was too sweet for my liking. Although the bf enjoyed it with milo as a hot chocolate.

I much preferred their Original Unsweetened version which was less sickly and more natural tasting. I could actually taste the almonds in this one!

I tasted both products on their own, and must admit I still prefer cows milk. Truth be told though, if I were to drink it a bit more often I no-doubtedly would get use to it (as I do with everything) and end up loving it (isn’t it always the way). Almond Breeze is definitely my number one choice for almond milk and I’m no longer going to shy away from it.

In particular, I think the Original Unsweetened is perfect for recipes and in addition to other ingredients. It coupled nicely with Chobani 0% in my creations. As well as being the perfect partner to banana in my Banana & Almond Milk Protein Slice.

I’m actually so excited to start using almond milk in more recipes! I’m thinking baked goods, cold desserts, milkshakes…the possibilities are endless. I mean just check out their Recipe page!

Whilst almond milk will never replace cows milk for me, it will be a lovely new addition to my milk repertoire.

    I love almond milk!
I can’t tolerate cows milk anymore unfortunately and so had opted for Soy. However have just recently started swpping that for almond milk when I can to try and reduce/limit my Soy intake a bit.

Almond Breeze is def my fav brand so far – some that i have tried just taste like murky water or others, as you said, are too sweet.
I havent seen the unsweetened Almond Breeze in supermarkets though, so I do get the original, but I find it ok. Will keep an eye out for the pink of the unsweetened though so I can try it if I see it!

I actually haven’t seen Almond Breeze in stores at all yet, only health food stores. But like Chobani, I’m sure they’ll be big here soon :)

Hey guys, you can buy Almond Breeze at Coles. I had a look at their website and that’s the only place it’s sold. I’m a big fan of the unsweetened too. Honestly, having even skim milk now makes me feel a bit queasy after having almond milk for the past couple of months, so I’m lovin’ AB! Thanks for the review Bek, great protein slice.

Oh cool I didn’t even realise that! I’m usually a Woolies shopper, but every now and again I enjoy popping into Coles to check out the different products and brands. Thanks for sharing :) Oh really? Wow! No problem, enjoy! :)

  3. That slice looks amazing! Definitely a must-try!
