Pizza Dough- Vitamix style

Keeping with the Vitamix theme I thought I’d share another one of our fun experiments. Kneading dough! Yes, remember how I told you it kneads dough? Well it does and it does it well.

What it does better? Cleans up the kneaded dough! Yup, and that stuff ain’t easy to get off. I was seriously impressed. The only down side is that I got too usde to the Vitamix cleaning itself and felt compelled to make the spatula clean itself too…if only.

Anyways, here’s the pizza dough recipe we used.

Pizza Dough

Makes 1 large pizza base or two small pizzas.

Ingredients

  • 1 yeast packet
  • 2 tsp of caster sugar
  • 1 cup of warm water
  • 2.5 cups of plain flour (wholemeal or half/half if you’d prefer)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tbs of oil

Method

  1. Put the yeast, sugar and water together in a bowl. Stir slowly till combined and leave to sit for 5 minutes.
  2. Put flour and salt in the Vitamix. Starting at 1 crank it up to 6 until a hole forms in the middle.
  3. Stop the Vitamix and add the yeast mixture (after the 5 minutes) and oil.
  4. If needed use a spatula to wipe/push down the sides of the jug.
  5. Starting at 1 again, switch to high mode- alternating between on and off for 5 times. (in bursts)
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 as necessary until the dough has formed a ball and is binded.
  7. Remove from the jug and place in a covered bowl somewhere warm for 15-20 minutes.
  8. Preheat a fanforced oven to 200 degrees celsius, and gather toppings for your base.
  9. After the waiting time, roll the dough out on a floured board till desired thickness and size.
  10. Top with desired toppings and pop in the oven for 16-20 minutes.

  1. Love my Vitamix. Best kitchen appliance investment ever.

Do you use it often? I’m loving this something crazy at the moment! What would you say you use it for the most?

      • I use Vitamix almost daily. I’ve added whole flax seed, bananas strawberries and blueberries to mutli-grain pancake mix. I make smoothies for the hubby 5 days a week. It’s great to quickly chop onions too. Only downside is scooping them out. I find myself having to turn the blade with the end of wooden spatula to scoop out what’s left at the bottom.

Oh that’s great- definitely getting your moneys worth. Yes, we did the onion chop trick last night! My partner had no trouble scooping them out..I don’t think- but I’ll check.
