Don’t Multi-task Life Away

Hello friends, and I say this from an air-conditioned house- although I’m upstairs without the air-con and instead with windows and the fan on medium, so that defeats the purpose…What I am trying to get at is that Brisbane is experiencing a heatwave today with temperatures such as 39 degrees celsius being thrown around. Stay cool, inside and hydrated people!

I’ve also decided to mix up the posts again, because although I’m not sick of the Vitamix posts and I’ve got more (yes it’s possible) to share with you, I’ll give you a break…for now.

So I was sitting on my laptop, or under if you will, reading blogs, going through emails, uploading photos, texting and listening to my Body Step 90 music as I learnt and practised the choreography. Yes, I am a fantastic multi-tasker and unfortunately that means I also suck at relaxing. As I was doing all those things I realised I was slowly becoming more and more anxious. My pages were taking ages to load, my phone wasn’t uploading the movies and I started to forget the fact that I’m suppose to be going over my step moves and got lost. Plus I was reading some fantastic blog posts but wasn’t taking any of it in. Well I wouldn’t have that! I quit out of the blogs and paused my music. I decided, what am I going to do- one thing at a time. So I alternated between listening to a song and reading a post. Once they were done I focussed on the photos I had to upload. And I felt so much better- yes it may have taken slightly longer, but why rush it only to not fully experience it?

That there my friends is my issue. I’ll want to get things done quickly and I’ll end up not fully being present as I do them and then missing out on the entire experience. I’m not living in the moment- the now.

With the holiday season already upon us- I swear it came earlier this year?- things are only going to get busier and we’re only going to miss more, even though we’re doing more. I know I’m going to try my hardest to soak in every christmas cookie, family event, kiss, hug, laugh and holiday moment I can. And hopefully you’ll do the same. How can we do this?

  • Take time out for YOU- read, go for a walk, have a nap, pedicure. Plan it in if you need to.
  • Be present. Don’t be exchanging gifts as you prepare the Christmas dinner. Be there for every moment and soak it in.
  • Don’t overbook/overcommit yourself. I know, hard to do- easy to say, right? But be mindful about what you’ve got planned. Could something be postponed a day so you have a day in between for down time. Could you book in that downtime? And don’t feel pressured to do everything, you’ll end up giving less to others by taking on more (irony!)
  • Be Thankful and Grateful. By taking the time to show gratitude and be thankful you’re actually recognising what is important to you in your life. And hopefully this will help you stay on track with what is important this holiday season.

I hope these help you one-task (see what I did there) and really LIVE this holiday season. I can’t wait to fully experience everything this holiday season has got to give!

What is something this Holiday Season that you are looking forward to fully experiencing?

I can definitely relate to this! I’m the queen of multitasking, much to my detriment. My manager job doesn’t help the issue, as it involves heaps of little jobs each day – consequently, I am always doing or thinking about 10 things at once. When I get home I try to focus on only one job at a time, and I make sure I take some time unwind every evening.

Yup, yup, yup. I’ve been going on so many walks lately

Philosophical thought of the day: Does university make everyone crazy, or do crazy people go to university?
