Body Attack

Remember the other day when I predicted that I will accomplish that body attack fitness goal of mine? Well I was right, because there I was Sunday morning waiting for the class to start! Can I just say? Body attack ROCKS! It’s like my second fav class, after Body Step of course, and I’ve only done it once. Already I am looking forward to the next time I get to do it. Fingers crossed I will be right for Sunday.

Here’s the lowdown on Body Attack. It’s challenging, and it’s sort of like Body Step without the step. I think there are 12 tracks all up including the abs and stretch at the end. Moves such as running, straight legged kicks, star jumps and lunges are the norm. My knee did really well, apart from the lunges so I swapped up my right leg lunge with a shuffle. The music is awesome and it really makes you work. The music isn’t as ‘fun loving’ as Body Step and more ‘yes, let’s go- work it, push push push’ etc. If you get my drift? Yup, didn’t think so…just try a class aye? Haha. I think what also contributes to my love for it is the fact that it keeps me working the whole time. Not to toot my own horn, but being a fitness instructor and a gym junkie means my fitness levels are pretty high and although I always work my butt off, sometimes it’s just not enough in the classes. But Body attack? Oh it’s enough. I think it helped that I had a rockin’ instructor too, who made the class all that more enjoyable.

So fast forwarding back to the present lets recap today. My day was actually really good- with the kids being very behaved, my lessons going perfectly and a big chunk of the day was dedicated to swimming lessons. I then came home to do some work, take a bike class (and a third of a cx class- dinner had to be made!), made dinner, cleaned up and then caught up on some blog reading.

The bike class was with an instructor I haven’t actually seen before, and whilst the class burnt plenty of calories (thanks to a 12 and a half minute hill) I felt he was really un-motivating and sort of felt like I had to push myself. This is fine by me, but I do prefer instructors that make the classes fun, challenging, motivating and make them feel like they are over in a flash. Unfortunately, with this guy I continually checked my phone for the time haha. Also, there was zilch issues with the knee! Yipee- every day it’s getting stronger and recovering more. Thanks to stretching, foam rolling, icing and heating!

Oh and guess who sold her Iphone 4? I did! And guess who will get to cross off a long term fitness goal? Yep, you got it again! I’m going to use the money to do my Advanced Instructor Module 1 for Body Step! Bring it on ;) Oh and did I mention I want to train in Body Attack now? It’s going to happen ;)

Have you done Body Attack before? What did you think? Have you ever had a instructor who was just ‘meh’?

  1. Body Attack is my favourite Les Mills class, by far!! I can’t do it right now (too high of a heart rate for pregnancy), but I can’t wait to start it up again in March. Before finding out I was moving to Oz, I was actually supposed to go for Step and Attack training to teach them at my gym in Calgary…so hopefully I can make that work here.
I will have to contact you in the fall about Les Mills training here!!

Body Attack is my favourite Les Mills class! I definately agree that the instructor makes all the difference. In fact, I’ve only ever found one instructor whose Body Attack classes I love to go to. Absolutely loving the new release too – with seven tuck jumps in a row and the skater tuck jump too. So much fun!

I’m so the same, I definitely have my preferences. I’d say Body Attack is probably 2nd behind Body Step. Have you done Step before? I like the new release but I don’t know it didn’t hit home for me like Step did- but I may be biased ;)
