Date night was another great success- there was great food, beautiful company and memorable moments. I don’t think I can get enough of hanging with this guy As you an earlier posted hinted- we were turning Japanesa tonight haha, song reference FYI.

So to start we went to Wagaya. Wagaya is a favourite of ours- especially the bfs. It’s a modern Japanese restaurant where you order all your meals using an interactive, touch-screen board. So basically the only time you see staff is at the beginning, the end and when they bring your food out. You will be amazed at how much this seems to speed up wait time for food- we got there just after 8 and starving so we ordered straight away (the usual) and literally 2 minutes later it all started coming out.

To start we got gyoza- I suggested skipping them this time…but the bf would here none of that. I remember the first time I had these it was like a savoury foodgasm for me, and they are rare. The flavour is incredible but I think I actually prefer wontons and dim sim better texture-wise. But that flavour- gold medal baby.

The bf being the big eater he is (ha, not) got to have 3 gyoza, since they are his fav (so generous I am) and also ordered the Wagyu steak. He says it has an awesome flavour- and ages ago when I tasted it the flavour wasn’t really my sort-of thing but it was definitely his thing, because he couldn’t get enough.

Then comes the main attraction- this was originally something I ordered for me but now we share it…because I am that good at picking dishes. It’s a small beef curry hot pot- although the small is quite big, so I can’t imagine what the large is like. It’s a bit of a novelty too because they bring out individual stove things and put the hot pot there so it cooks in front of you. The beef is super thin so that makes it easier to cook. Now, being regulars (ha) we have a routine figured out- we also order a side dish of ramen because noodles rock. I eat all the tofu and vegetables and he has all the meat. We share the ramen and soup. It works for both of us The only reason I don’t have the meat is because it isn’t the leanest meat (fat makes me choke and I fail at trying to eat it haha) nor does it look the most appetising to me so the bf happily eats it all

Whilst, I LOVE the soft tofu, the mushrooms (UGH which was actually amazing last night), the tender carrots, asian vegetables and stringy noodles (yam-flour I think or something), the real winner is the flavouring. That curry flavouring has just enough kick in it for both of us and is absolutely amazing- I’d love to know what they do and re-create it at home sometime.

After Wagaya we were full, but decided there was still room for dessert. We hadn’t planned anything yet, although get this- someone anxiously said they needed to know what we were doing for dessert on our way to Wagaya…and it wasn’t me haha! Have I rubbed off on him or what? Anyways, there were a few options but we decided since it’d been a while since our last visit to Marble Slab, it was time to go back.

This was probably my favourite visit to Marble Slab- we were a bit later than normal which meant we were the only customers in the shop most of the time. The guy that works there is also lovely and we bond over a shared love for ice-cream and peanut butter haha. Last night as we arrived I instantly saw a new addition- chocolate peanut butter! And I was ready to taste test before my fellow pb partner let me know that it’s all gone…but don’t worry guys he said it will be back so I’ll have HAVE to go back sometime. The bf had already started ordering his and I was pretty impressed with his ice-cream choices- I am definitely rubbing off on him.

I saw another flavour I thought looked appealing and tried the cookie dough- it was good, but was it as good as my usual butter pecan? Oh decisions. My pb-lover brother suggested that I can go half cookie dough, half butter pecan and he will just share the mix-ins amongst it so they don’t mix- unlike the bf’s he had mine sitting side by side. I tell ya if I didn’t have my current bf and this guy wasn’t possibly gay we could have something going.

Ahhhh that ice-cream was so good. It’d been a month since we’d been there and going back there I think why we ever bothered going elsewhere haha. SO GOOD! If you live nearby, or if you don’t GO GO GO! It’s worth the couple of grand for a plane ride

Whilst eating we were chatting with my pb-ice-cream buddy and he was telling us how they had forgotten to make a back-up batch of pb chocolate ice-cream so that’s why it was missing. They had it out the back but it wasn’t hard enough to sell- they are big on quality. I protested my desire and lack of caring with- ‘I WOULD HAVE EATEN IT ANYWAY’. Haha, that’s a girl Bek. Well anyways, low and behold- to my surprise he came out with a spoonful of it- which myself and the bf shared (although you know who got more). I only really shared because I couldn’t actually taste the pb- and I wanted to see what the bf thought, hehe.

He said he could taste it, and the pb-lover-ice-cream man also tried some and said the first thing he tastes is the peanut butter. But all I could taste is the chocolate- which is weird. There must be something my taste buds are sensitive to, which would make sense because sometimes I’ve tasted the bf’s chocolate choices and it’s just too bitter or rich for me and he doesn’t notice it. Maybe it’s a certain ingredient? hmmm.

Now, these places might not be fine dining or cost an arm and a leg but they are high quality joints. We are never disappointed with the taste/food or service. 10/10 awarded to date night!
