Here is, as promised, a review of last night’s fine dining dinner date at Alchemy Restaurant & Bar. It was the bf and my previous number 1 dining experience (tied with Aria) and we were not let down the second time- that’s for sure!
The necessary pre-dinner date photo. Random fact: That dress was actually an odd length and I ACTUALLY hemmed it up (so what if the underlayer was cut with scissors and is now fraying? haha).
The atmosphere is beautiful with dimmed lighting and colours of red, black and white- oh and did I mention there is a killer view of the Story Bridge? I’ll take that thank you!
We had sour dough bread with olive oil and seasalt butter. God I love bread. No photos of this, which is a sign of how quickly it was devoured. To be honest though the butter just tasted like airy, whipped butter, but nonetheless delish.
We were given a complimentary seafood appetizer which was a ocean trout terrine with what we think was apple puree and cream cheese. I did not enjoy mine at all (not a raw fish type of girl) so the bf demolished it since he was starving.
Followed was our mains. I, oddly, opted for veal. Typically I go vego or fish when eating out because I don’t often get the chance to eat that food at home- but the veal was calling me.
My dish was Veal Blanquette with Morel Veloute, Herb Gnocchi and Truffle Glazed Carrots. There were also green beans and they added a tasty crunch. The veal was exquisite and I was given 4 small rolls- but only managed to eat 2 and a half. Are you as surprised as me that I didn’t finish my plate for once? The gnocchi was not my favourite to be honest- it was deep fried and I am just not a deep fried girl. The bf loved it and said it reminded him of potato gems. A great dish nonetheless.
The bf opted for the special which beef cheeks with mash- he loved it and couldn’t finish his giant serving. I was actually surprised at how generous the dish size was. We also ordered a garlic creamy mash as a side to share- which was unnecessary since the bf got a big serving with his dish that we could of had instead. Oh well, the garlic in it was just divine!
Then came dessert (this is what you were waiting for right?). The bf knew he had to get the chocolate cake like last time. But I had a taste of his and mine was definitely better
The best thing about his was the inside of the chocolate marbre which just oozed chocolate (kicking myself I didn’t get a picture of this), but I found the outside to be meh- the bf thought I was crazy as he inhaled it. The honeycomb looks sneakingly amazing but was defs not my thing when I tasted that it had been soaked in some kind of coffee liqueur or something

I opted for something a bit lighter, fruiter, more refreshing but equally (or more so) tasty (surprised?). I loved the tiny cinnamon doughnut and wished there were more (if my stomach would fit it). The white chocolate mousse was also very easy to consume- not overly rich or decadent which was a nice change. The strawberries were yum but I didn’t care much for the raspberries- yuck. BUT what really surprised me was how much I enjoyed the raspberry frozen yogurt/ice cream accompaniment it came with. It was so refreshing and cut through the sweetness nicely. Oh and I really liked that fruit leather/strap/roll up type thing on top- texture=awesome!

All in all it was a great night: amazing company, beautiful views, lovely atmosphere and decor, friendly service, delicious meals, no long waiting times (and a free meal for me haha)- we left very happy people
Later that night I had a mental battle which I, thanks to the bossy bf, WON! Suck on that mind. Haha. We also watched some wedding crashers- haha how cray cray is Isla Fisher in that movie? Not a fan of Rachel McAdams character though.
Well I am off to enjoy my Sunday now! Hope your weekend is going splendid and you’re dreading Monday as much as me hehe.
